APD Accreditation
The Albany, Georgia Police Department (APD) is proud to be a CALEA-accredited agency. The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) was established in 1979 to assist law enforcement agencies in creating and maintaining high standards of excellence. The Albany Police Department was awarded Tier Two Advanced Law Enforcement Accreditation in 2013, making the agency 1 of only 45 accredited law enforcement agencies achieving and maintaining such prestigious recognition in the State of Georgia. Additionally, APD has maintained the State of Georgia Law Enforcement Standards Certification again, making the agency 1 of 137 law enforcement agencies across the State of Georgia to receive and maintain such recognition.
APD was last assessed by CALEA in August 2020, receiving commission approval for re-certification in November 2020 with a 98% compliance rating in the following areas:

The agency received its recertification in March 2025. As the department continues to serve the citizens of Albany, we remain committed to excellence, always striving to create a safe Albany by building trust, transparency, and respect. We demonstrate and adhere to the moral and ethical principles of principled policing at all times.
The Albany, Georgia, Police Department is a CALEA (Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies) accredited agency. As part of our upcoming annual review process, we announce the availability of the CALEA Public Comment Portal for feedback on our performance as a public safety entity. Comments may reference commendations or concerns regarding our compliance with CALEA standards, community engagement, public safety service delivery, and our overall candidacy for continued accredited status. The overall intent of the accreditation process is to support continuous improvement and foster the pursuit of professional excellence in Law Enforcement. Please note that CALEA is not an investigatory body; therefore, the public portal should not be used to submit information for such purposes. Additionally, there will be no response other than acknowledgment of the submission. The submission will be considered in the context of its relevance to compliance with standards and the tenets of CALEA Accreditation as detailed above. The Albany, Georgia, Police Department first received CALEA accreditation in November 2013 and has maintained its status through our most recent re-accreditation. The Department is an Advanced Law Enforcement Accredited Program, which means we comply with all 461 CALEA standards applicable to our function.
