The Albany-Dougherty Special Investigative Unit (S.I.U.) is made up of 4 agencies, Albany Police Department, Dougherty County Police Department, Dougherty County Sheriff’s Office, and Dougherty County District Attorney’s Office.
The unit exists to enforce local, state and federal statutes, which prohibit the possession, use or distribution of narcotics, prescription or non-prescription, dangerous drugs and other restricted or controlled substances; prevent and deter the use of illegal narcotics, the possession, trafficking, and sale of illegal narcotics as well as to perform highly responsible, tactical, and professional work, directed towards the suppression of criminal gang activities within Albany-Dougherty County, through a combination of aggressive law enforcement and public awareness.
