On Thursday, June 11, 2026, the City of Albany, with the assistance of Dougherty County, will activate Operation Safe Place to offer people a place to cool down during the hottest days of the year.

Below is a list of locations available to anyone needing a break from the South Georgia heat, along with their public hours.

  • The Albany Transportation Center
    • Address: 300 W. Oglethorpe Boulevard
    • Hours of Operation:
      • Monday - Friday: 6 a.m. – 7 p.m.
      • Saturday: 7 a.m. – 2 p.m. (unless otherwise notified)
      • Sunday: Closed (unless otherwise notified)
  • The Dougherty County Public Library Central Branch in Downtown
    • Address: 300 Pine Avenue
    • Hours of Operation
      • Monday - Wednesday: 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.
      • Thursday & Friday: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
      • Saturday: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

  • The Northwest Library Branch
