Albany, GA – The City of Albany and the Albany Fire Department are pleased to announce the official launch of the City's Multifamily Inspection Program, a proactive life safety initiative designed to protect residents living in apartment complexes and other multifamily residential properties throughout Albany and Dougherty County.

Beginning August 1, 2026, the Albany Fire Department will begin conducting inspections of multifamily residential occupancies as part of a comprehensive effort to identify fire and life safety hazards, improve code compliance, and reduce the risk of fires and other emergencies.

The Albany Fire Department is committed to working collaboratively with apartment owners, property managers, and maintenance personnel throughout the inspection process. Inspectors will provide education, guidance, and reasonable compliance timelines when deficiencies are identified, reinforcing the Department's philosophy that Shared Responsibility, Shared Accountability, and Shared Success are the most effective approach to community risk reduction.

The Multifamily Inspection Program reflects the City's ongoing commitment to safeguarding its neighborhoods and ensuring that residents have safe places to live. The initiative is expected to improve emergency preparedness, reduce property loss, and strengthen the overall resilience of the Albany community.

Property owners and managers will receive information regarding inspection scheduling and program requirements as inspections commence.
