Albany, GA – Albany State University is gearing up for Homecoming this weekend, and the City of Albany will be out to help keep the community safe as it comes together.

Things to keep in mind for this weekend:

  • VENDORS: Any vendor wishing to operate on City Right of Way must obtain a Peddler's Permit.
  • EOC: Starting Thursday, October 8 at 5 p.m., the Dougherty County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) will be virtually activated until Sunday, October 11, at 8 p.m. During this time, anyone with questions or needing help with a non-emergency can call (229) 302-1900 for assistance. For any emergencies, please call 911.
  • Police Presence: The Albany Police Department, Dougherty County Sheriff’s Office, Dougherty County Police Department, and Georgia State Patrol will be out during Homecoming celebrations to help maintain safety and prevent drunk driving.

While celebrating this weekend, please do it responsibly. Rideshare programs are available in Albany. Please assign a designated driver or plan to use rideshare services to prevent drunk driving. We want to make sure everyone gets home safely after enjoying the festivities and football game this weekend.

From APD: Homecoming Week Community Safety Update

As our community prepares to celebrate Homecoming week, local law enforcement is committed to ensuring a fun, safe, and welcoming environment for students, alumni, and residents.

To help maintain public safety and community well-being:

  • Event & Notice Monitoring: Officers will be actively monitoring event flyers, online notices, and public announcements throughout the week to prepare for large gatherings and ensure proper safety protocols are met.
  • Proactive Patrols & Deterrence: Increased law enforcement will be present around high-traffic areas, campus venues, and event spaces. Unruly, dangerous, or harmful behavior will not be tolerated, and law enforcement will take prompt action to address any activities that threaten public safety.
  • See Something, Say Something: We strongly encourage community members and attendees to immediately report any suspicious, unsafe, or illegal activity to local law enforcement.
  • Safe Travel: Please plan for traffic delays, watch for increased foot traffic, and never drive under the influence.

If you are hosting or organizing an event, please ensure it complies with local permits and ordinances. Let’s work together to make this Homecoming safe, enjoyable, and memorable for everyone.
