Albany, GA – On Friday, December 19, in Room 100 of the Government Center, 222 Pine Avenue, the City of Albany Board of Commissioners approved the use of SPLOST VIII funds to construct a new community center at the Bill Miller/Kalmon Malone Park. In addition to the construction of the new community center, the Commission approved converting the existing gymnasium into an open-air pavilion and Carver Gym Rehabilitation, which involves modernizing the gym with HVAC, hazardous material abatement, roof replacement, and ADA upgrades.
The commission also approved the use of TSPLOST I funds for sidewalk pavers on Washington Street and Flint Avenue. This project will feature color-coordinated pavers designed to complement and preserve the historical character of downtown Albany while improving walkability throughout the area.
Commission meetings are open to the public, and all community members are encouraged to attend.
