Distribution Operations Control Center (DOC)
The Distribution Operations Control Center (DOC) operates around the clock to monitor and manage Albany’s electric, water, and gas distribution systems. Using advanced technology like SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) and an Outage Management System (OMS), DOC Operators ensure that utility services run safely, efficiently, and reliably every day.
When a customer reports a power outage, water issue, or gas concern, DOC Operators dispatch the appropriate field crews and track the status of each event to ensure timely response and resolution. The DOC also leverages the City’s new Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) system, which provides real-time data from electric, water, and gas meters to help quickly identify service issues and improve overall system visibility.
Operators continuously monitor electric substations, water towers, gas systems, and sewer lift stations to detect potential problems before they grow. During major storms or emergency events, the DOC serves as a critical hub of coordination, helping utility teams prioritize public safety, restore service, and communicate with other departments. Whether it’s a routine outage or a city-wide event, the DOC is always working behind the scenes to keep essential services flowing.
