Albany, GA – Did you or someone you know receive the following message?

“Attention Albany Utility Customer. We have detected continuous water usage at your address on account number {acct_no}. Please call us at (229) 302-1699 for more information. You can also monitor your water usage anytime through your customer portal at https://myauportal.albanyga.gov.”

If so, you may have called in while our phone lines were down. Here is what you should have heard if you reached out to us.

“Attention Albany Utility Customer.

We’re reaching out to notify you that our system has detected a continuous flow alert on your water service. This means there has been constant water usage past the meter, which is located on the customer's side of the service line.

This type of usage alert could be from irrigation, a running toilet, running water left unattended, a leak, or some other source on your water service line between the meter and your property or within your internal and/or external plumbing. If you are aware of the circumstance causing the unusually higher than normal usage, and have no issue with it, there is no action needed on your part. If you are not aware of this increased usage, you will need to investigate to determine what is causing the issue.

Please be aware that because this issue is occurring on private property, it is the homeowner’s responsibility to investigate and resolve it. Albany Utilities is not responsible for repairs or usage related to leaks or other circumstances beyond the meter on the customer’s side of the service line.

We strongly recommend checking your plumbing, irrigation systems, and fixtures as soon as possible to prevent water waste and higher-than-normal utility bills.

You can also monitor your water usage through your customer portal at: https://myauportal.albanyga.gov.

Thank you for being a valued Albany Utilities customer.”

We do apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Our intent with the notifications is to provide “proactive alert” of unusual water usage patterns that could potentially lead to higher utility bills.

The phone lines have since been restored and customers should be able to reach support if necessary.
