Beverage Handlers Card
Any person actively engaged in the sale or serving of alcoholic beverages in any establishment holding an Alcohol License for Consumption or Retail is required to obtain an Alcoholic Beverage Handlers Card (ABC Card). It is required for them to carry on their person at all times while on the job. It is the responsibility of the owner or representative of the licensed establishment to ensure that all persons engaged in alcohol sales or service have a current ABC card.
Certification
A representative of the licensed establishment must attend the Alcoholic Beverage Control Handler's Class for Trainers. This class certifies that the establishment is authorized to provide training to all employees who require an ABC card. It is the responsibility of the licensed establishment to ensure that its employees receive the training needed to sell or serve alcohol. Alcoholic Beverage Control Handler's Class for Trainers is held on the third Thursday of each month. The licensed establishment will receive a Certificate of Completion that must be renewed every three years. If the certified trainer leaves or ownership of the Alcohol License changes, it will be required to recertify the trainer, even if this occurs before the renewal date. The cost to attend this training is $50.00. A criminal background check is required for each attendee of the course.
ABC Card
The Certified Alcohol Beverage Control Handler Trainer of that establishment must train employees. The Certified Trainer will complete and sign a Statement of Understanding verifying that the employee has received this training before applying. The cost to receive the alcoholic beverage handler's card for employees is $15.00. It may be renewed every four years for the cost of $5.00. Application may be made at the Treasurer's Office at 240 Pine Avenue, Suite 150.
Suspension
Any person who has been found selling alcoholic beverages to a minor or selling alcoholic beverages on Sunday (without being authorized) may have his or her ABC card suspended and be required to pay a reinstatement fee of $50.00. If this action is continued, the identification card may be revoked.
