Crime is a challenge that every city, state, and nation face. Albany is not immune; in 2017, the City of Albany experienced an increase in violent crimes. The majority of the crimes were domestic-related or incidents involving acquaintances. However, the crimes were alarming and shake the consciousness of the community. Consequently, the Mayor responded with a call to action against crime forming the Safe City Coalition to address the perception of safety in the City of Albany. The Mayor along with other city leaders gathered public input from all community stakeholders and data to recommend innovative programs, solutions and policy recommendations for consideration by the full City Commission. The Safe City Coalition developed an action plan that includes cutting-edge measures that will improve safety and security in our city, its neighborhoods, and all who may live, work, shop or play in Albany.
