Albany Police Law Enforcement Accreditation & Certification Updates

The Albany Georgia Police Department (APD) is proud to be a CALEA accredited agency. The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) was established in 1979 to assist law enforcement agencies in creating and maintaining high standards of excellence. The Albany Police Department was awarded full Tier Two Advanced Accreditation in 2013, making the agency 1 of only 45 accredited law enforcement agencies achieving and maintaining such prestigious recognition in the State. In addition, APD has maintained State of Georgia Law Enforcement Standards Certification since 1998, 1 of 137 law enforcement agencies across the State of Georgia to receive and maintain such recognition.

APD was last assessed by CALEA in 2016 and received a 99% overall compliance rating in the following areas:

The agency will undertake its third re-certification review in December of 2020. An in-depth examination of all departmental components will be assessed against evidence based best standards of practice in law enforcement.
