Commissioner Demetrius Young
A Native Son of Albany, Demetrius Young was born at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital and grew up in South Central Albany raised by two parents who were heavily involved in leadership, politics and civic activities in the community.
Commissioner Young is a proud product of all 3 educational institutions in Albany. He graduated in 1989 from Monroe Comprehensive High School. He received a certification in Computer Installation/Maintenance and Computer Networking from Albany Technical College. He is a graduate of Albany State University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science. In May of 2020 he will receive a Masters degree in Public Administration with a concentration in Public Policy, also from ASU.
Mr. Young has had a 25-year career in Information Technology most recently having worked as an Information Services Engineer for Community Development Institute in Denver, Colorado. Mr. Young will use his career experience and his academic background to help better the quality of life of the citizens in Ward 6. He believes that using data and innovation to make policy will benefit all of Albany.
After spending almost nine years living in Aurora, Colorado and raising his four daughters Jamiya, Nubia, Kenya and Ericka; Mr. Young says he wants to return Albany to a place where its youth can graduate from post-secondary education and find jobs and have a good quality of life in the Good Life City.
