Albany Fire Department Will Receive Upgraded Equipment
Albany, GA – The Mayor and Commissioners approved the purchase of seven (7) sets of emergency response equipment for the Albany Fire Department (AFD) from Municipal Emergency Services (MES) for a total expenditure of $236,294. The purchase will be made
with Capital Improvement funding.
The current equipment is aging, creating issues for maintenance, parts, and repairs. Also, in the last ten (10) years, there have been significant upgrades to the safety and strength of vehicles requiring the life-saving equipment to be updated in response. This purchase will include seven (7) Hurst E-draulic cutters, seven (7) Hurst spreaders, seven (7) Hurst rams, forty-two (42) 9 AH batteries, fourteen (14) 110V chargers, two (2) StrongArm fire kits and a
two-year service contract.
AFD currently has twelve (12) sets of Hurst E-draulic rescue jaws of life cutters, spreaders, and rams. These rescue tools have been in operation for over eight (8) years. AFD staff agree that these tools are essential in speeding up rescue operations but are at the end of their useful life.
