Underground Cable Repairs Underway for Streetlights
Albany, GA (January 22, 2019) – The Albany City Commission has approved a recommendation from the Albany Utilities Board to replace the underground cable to existing city streetlights with SPLOST VII funds not to exceed $2,500,000.
Triple S Communications Inc., of Moultrie, GA, was awarded the contract to do the work over a five-year period. Currently, cables that service electrical power to streetlights throughout the City of Albany will be replaced on an as-needed basis in accordance with bid documents, specifications, and all other contract documents. The agreement is for a one-year period with four (4) options to renew for additional one (1) year terms for multi-year purchases.
“We have identified some 47,000 feet of underground cable with issues. Our top priority is to approach that 47,000 feet first ahead of the LED project. So, when we get those LED streetlights changed out, they will not sit there without power,” stated Jimmy Norman, Director of Utilities Operations.
