DCED is Awarded CHIP Funds
The City’s Department of Community & Economic Development (DCED) has been selected by the Department of Community Affairs (DCA) to receive a grant in the amount of $612,000 in HOME funds through the Community HOME Investment Program (CHIP). This is the first CHIP Award granted to the City of Albany.
Shelena Hawkins, Director of DCED stated, “We are thrilled to be recipients of this award which brings additional housing resources to the City of Albany during a time of possible federal budget reductions for housing programs. This funding will help low and moderate income homeowners to sustain their housing for years to come through rehabilitations.”
The CHIP Award was available to Georgia communities with eligible activities to include those impacted by January 2017 tornados. The DCED application was submitted with proposed new construction housing and rehabilitation of owner-occupied housing for low and moderate income households.
